| Modular
design and quality engineering make the unique
MICROSPECTOR system the most versatile small
pipe and duct inspection package available.
The
system is based on the Inuktun Microtracs
crawlers. These tracked units are precision
machined from solid brass, aluminum or stainless
steel stock and are fitted with high quality,
powerful DC drive motors and vulcanized rubber
track belts. Each unit is completely independent
of the other, providing the system with excellent
steering and maneuvering capabilities.
Operation
in small pipe sizes [4 in (100 mm) to 6 in
(150 mm)] is accomplished using flexible connecting
hardware that allows the tracks and camera
to be mounted in-line (see figure above).
The design of the joints allows the vehicle
to negotiate bends and obstacles as it travels
through the pipe.

In
larger diameter pipes and rectangular ductwork,
the system is assembled in a more conventional,
side by side configuration, and is steerable.
Mounting brackets have been designed for use
in 8 in / 200 mm and 10 in / 250 mm pipe and
in a flat configuration. In these arrangements
the tracked units are mounted at an angle
allowing them to travel along the sides of
the pipe. This feature provides optimal traction
and keeps the tracks clear of obstacles and
material lying in the bottom of the pipe.
